Welcome to Innsworth Junior School web site.

Newsletter Monday 26th November - Part 2

Consultation Evenings

Our immediate reaction was that attendance by parents was very good.  I will be studying the figures to give us a percentage.  There is a questionnaire attached to this newsletter, which I do hope you will complete.  Without feedback, we have no way of knowing whether our procedures are informative and of value.  With all teachers giving up two evening periods and parents investing their hard-earned free time, we must make sure that we have got it right! Thank you for coming along and waiting so patiently.  Five or even ten minutes is hardly long enough for the teachers to open their mark books.

Last Friday’s ‘Friends’ Pre Christmas Disco

Friday’s disco was a great success; the children obviously enjoyed themselves, even though many were quite content to sit with their friends and enjoy their own group space in the various areas around the corridors.  One parent commented, ‘As usual, the children did the school proud with their polite manners, giving a thank you whenever it was needed.  Thanks must go to small band of ‘Friends’ for their organisation and to our parents who gave up their evening to make the event the success it was.

Christmas Parties

On Tuesday 18th December, all children will be taking part in their class or year group party.  Children will not need to bring a packed lunch as the party food will be put out for 12.30 p.m. Children will still need their fruit for break time.

Children may come to school wearing their party clothes on this day.

Please can you think ahead and decide what item of party food you may wish to contribute.  This way the teacher will be able to make sure that there is a balance between sweet and savoury items.  A separate letter will be sent home shortly.  Volunteers for helping during the party afternoon will be willingly accepted! Please let the teachers know.

Our Curriculum Provision

This has been an unusual term for us in relation to our organisation.  We are just about to evaluate how well our curriculum has met the needs of the pupils.  From feedback, which I have already received, the Year 5 Science is an area for scrutiny.  Mr Ward has taken responsibility for this and apparently, he seems to have given a misunderstanding to some of the parents who spent time with him on Consultation Evening.  His worries are to do with the intrusion of one-off activities eating into his Science time, and not his ability to provide good quality Science lessons.  The group is fairly large, which is what we will be evaluating in terms of provision.  Mr Ward was very apologetic when I spoke about how his comments had come across.

NITS!!

Nits are on the rampage once again.  Last week one member of staff witnessed the largest louse they had ever seen; this should not be happening.  Every parent has to take responsibility for checking their child’s head every week, if not every day.  It does not take a minute to check through the hair as you put a brush through it.  If you are all doing this, you will surely spot any of those nasty creatures ‘looking for a good home’.  This would stop further children from being infected and stop the school from having to ring parents when we spot headlice roaming freely across a scalp.  Hopefully, the only parents I upset with this message are the parents who does not constantly check!

Singing in the Cathedral

Thanks to Miss Schofield, our Year 5 and 6 children had the most wonderful opportunity to sing in Gloucester Cathedral.  For those parents in attendance, they will surely agree with my comments.  The children did the school, themselves, and their parents proud.  They were performing alongside Longlevens and Cam Everlands and although all present could be accused of bias, we think our children out shone all others!  Thanks go to Miss Schofield, Mr Ward and Miss Stocken for the time given to organising this event.  A teacher from another school described the children’s performance as “awesome”.

Year 5/6 Visit to Winston Churchill Museum

Thank you to all the parents who gave up a whole day to accompany the children to London .  Although a long day, the children did gain a great deal of knowledge from their visit.  Next time we will try and avoid the Queen’s Opening of Parliament!!
