Dates

Friday February 15th – End of Term 3!

Just a quick reminder …. we are not in school next week!  As there is no In-service day we return bright and early on Monday 25th February.  Any child who is absent because they think we are still on holiday will be marked as unauthorised.  Obviously, this will not apply if you have already notified us of an agreed family holiday.

Sponsored Maths Quiz

The quiz will be taking place on Thursday March 6th. Please encourage your child to learn as many facts as he or she feels comfortable with.   Many thanks.

Monday 3rd March:  Secondary Selection Day

Year 6 parents will be receiving notification about their child’s secondary school on Monday 3rd March.  If you have any queries regarding secondary allocation, I will be available until at least 7.00 p.m. on this day.  Just telephone the school and we will arrange a time.  I am hopeful that most parents will be happy with the allocated school.  Fingers crossed!

Fashion Show at Larkfield Infant School

You should have received a flyer this week about the Fashion Show Evening at Larkfield on Wednesday 5th March from 7.00 p.m.  Profit from the sales will be donated to the Charity “Breakthrough Breast Cancer” so please go along and support this event.

Music Evening: Wednesday 26th March

Please put this date in your diary.  If there is any child who plays a musical instrument outside of school and who would like to play in our Music Evening, please let Miss Schofield know as soon as possible.

School Clubs

All clubs will be in operation from Monday 25th February. Please note that Computer Club will be for the Year 4 children after the Term 3 break.

Consultation Evenings in March

The two Consultation Evenings are set for 12th and 13th March.  Please put these dates in your diary, as we do want to see all parents during these two evenings.

Residential Visit

A quick reminder to all Year 6 children who are going on this year’s residential visit to Saundersfoot.  The next payment of £30.00 is due by Friday 15th February.

Beautiful Harlequin Rabbits FREE to a good home

Sophie Dolling currently has 3 pedigree Harlequin rabbits that need a home as soon as possible.  They are all tame and hand reared.  Harlequins are medium sized but predominantly grey with many colours mixed in. The rabbits would cost you £25 each from any pet shop but Sophie is giving them away free. The RSPCA in Cheltenham will spay them free of charge.  Food is only 8 pounds per 10 kilos so they are not expensive to keep. Please phone 01452 713621 should you wish to take one.

Are you going to be moving in the near future?

We are currently thinking about our class organisation for next September.  Obviously the RAF closure makes forward planning very difficult.  If you know or have an ‘inkling’ that a move may be in the offing, please could you let us know.  This would not jeopardise your child’s place at this school, if the move does not go ahead.  Many thanks.

Reading at Home

Last week one Literacy Group received letters written by me on behalf of the teacher.  It has since become known to me that too many children, across the school, are not reading enough at home.  Home reading has to happen if children are going to make the required progress before they leave this school.  As parents, this is your responsibility to make this happen.  If you are finding that children are making excuses about not having their reading books, please let us know.  Reading is one of the greatest pleasures in life and together we should be supporting children’s Literacy development.

Brass Workshop for Years 3 and 4

This week the Year 3 and 4 children have been treated to a week of Brass workshops, funded by the Government’s Wider Opportunities Scheme. The culmination of these sessions will be a presentation for parents in the hall between 3.30 p.m. and 4.00 p.m. on Thursday 14th February.  A separate letter has been sent home.

Parking at school

We do have to ask all parents to refrain from parking in the school car park during the early morning ‘drop off’ and afternoon ‘pick up’ times.  This is a safety issue and so must take priority over convenience.

Headlice

If your child suffers repeated invasions of these unwanted creatures, you may want to consider a £17 investment in the form of a badge.  We don’t know why the badge works but… it does!  If you are interested ask Mrs Hamblett for a leaflet.

Valentine’s Day 2008

On Thursday it will be Valentine’s Day. The children have asked, through the School Council, for a Valentine’s Post Box.  In order to involve all the children, we have decided this year to make a ‘Valentine’s care card’.  Each child will draw the name of another child from their class out of a hat.  They will then make a ‘Valentine’s care card’ for that child saying nice things about him/her.  Naturally, the cards will not be signed. All the cards will be put into the post box ready to distribute on Thursday.

Have a very enjoyable end of term break.
