Welcome to Innsworth Junior School web site.

Newsletter Wednesday 12th September 2007 - Part B

Healthy Eating/ Drinking
Just to remind you that we are a 'Healthy School' so please only pack fruit or vegetables for your child's mid morning break.
Water is freely available so children should not bring fizzy drinks into school at any time.
Every child has been given a new water bottle. If a child loses their bottle, a replacement can be bought from Mrs Hamblett for 25p.
Sweets are obviously a 'no go area'. Back to top
Lunch boxes
Please try to make your child's lunch as healthy as possible. This is not just the school trying to impose our will on our parents. It is now widely accepted that children's behaviour can be directly affected by the food which they eat. As we all want the best for our children, I do not foresee any problems. Back to top
School Terms and Holidays

Calendar of Events for the Year
This should be with you by the end of this week. Back to top
Staff Thanks
On behalf of the whole staff I have to say a huge "Thank You" for the many gifts that were brought into school at the end of the summer term. Although not expected, they were greatly appreciated. Recognition by parents that the staff are a dedicated workforce is reward in itself. Thank you. Back to top
Reading Record / Homework Log
All children have a red reading record and this should be brought home each day so that parents may listen to their child read. Even if your child is a 'free' reader, he/she will need to discuss the text in order to develop the higher order reading skills. Our 2007 reading SATs results were very high so we do know that our approach does work.
The new Reading Record contains a section for items about homework. We found that the homework logbook did not work so we have tried to incorporate the two together. As we had some previous stock to use up, your child may have been issued with one of the original Reading Records. If this is the case, do not hesitate to add any comments about homework tasks, alongside any you make about reading. Lost books incur a 50p charge for a replacement. Back to top
Tesco Sport
From 10th September until 4th November you can collect Sport for Schools and Clubs vouchers whenever you shop at Tesco. Like most schools, we will be collecting these vouchers during this period. Last year we managed to collect enough for us to receive tennis nets and other sports equipment. Please keep those vouchers rolling in! I'll do my bit as I shop at Tesco - far too often! Back to top
Achievements
We have to commend those children who put themselves out to help others during the summer holiday. The people in charge of the Community Hall have told us about how impressed they have been with children (some from our school) who helped the community with the water distribution. We will have a full list of their names shortly.
Well done to Lee Marshall and William Rees for gaining places in the Gloucester Football 'A' Team.
Well done to Jake Thompson (part of a team of twelve) for raising £1500 by taking part in 'Relay for Life' at the Prince of Wales stadium, Cheltenham. Back to top
Queries?
This is a long newsletter but as it is the first of the year, we felt that it was fairer to you to set out our expectations very plainly. We are trying to give all children the best possible start to the Junior stage of their 'educational journey'.
If there are any queries or concerns about any of our procedures or practices, please come into the office and ask us.
If you would like newsletters sent to you via email, please print your email address (clearly) on the reply slip on the original paper version of this newsletter.

Finally, enjoy the late summer sun as all too soon, the daylight hours will be disappearing! Back to top
