We are now two thirds of the way into this academic year, which means SATs for Year 6 and the end of year assessments for Years 3, 4 and 5. It also means report writing for the teachers so they do not escape either! A little bit of sustained sunshine would help us all. I know the children are desperate to get onto the field so please keep your fingers crossed!

At this present moment in time, we are waiting to hear what Gloucestershire County Council has decided is the best plan for this area. We have heard that the public meeting was quite interesting with many searching questions being voiced. This week, Councillor Nash, the Cabinet member with the education portfolio, was invited into school to face an inquisition from our School Council. The School Council had obviously undertaken their research and so Councillor Nash had to give in-depth responses. However, it appears that some of School Council members have accepted her responses to the 'What if?' scenarios and reported to parents that mixed classes will be taking place in 2007. I have to tell you that no discussion concerning class organisation for 2007 has taken place with governors. Undoubtedly, if numbers drop to levels where two classes per year group are not viable, our class organisation will need to be explored. Unless pupil movement rapidly escalates beyond our present expectations, our plans for September remain as they currently are - two classes per year group. However, as we cannot anticipate what our pupil numbers will be in the academic year 2007/8, we need to concentrate on our provision for 2006/7. Please be assured - our parents are important to us - we will, as they say, 'keep you in the loop'.

The last Saturday English booster session took place last Saturday [4 in all] and so all we can do now is wait for SATs to arrive. The Year 6 children have put in great effort to ensure that they achieve their best in the coming tests. They deserve great praise for getting up so early and coming to school. Well done also, to the early morning Mathematics Booster children, who are approaching the last week of their 12 week schedule. I have enjoyed these sessions but it will be nice to be back outside again, welcoming the children to a new day at school - hopefully in the sunshine that has so far failed to appear! PLEASE NOTE - A BREAKFAST CLUB IN THE SCHOOL HALL will operate during SATs week for all Year 6. Mrs Mackenzie and Mrs Gilbert, will be preparing breakfast from 8.30 a.m. onwards. Toast, cereal, fruit and juice was the order of the day last year. Breakfast 8.30 a.m. - 8.50 a.m. - FREE to all Year 6.

Well done to Mrs Rogers [parent of a Year 4 child] who completed the London marathon in 3 hours 49 minutes. I'm full of admiration for those who can cover this distance and remain in a healthy state. Many of the staff have enlisted for this year's Race for Life. You have to start somewhere!

We are delighted to announce that Mrs Pendlebury is expecting her second child and so will be taking maternity leave from October 2006. We are pleased that she intends to return during the middle of 2007.

Yesterday, we played our last match of the season against Upton St Leonards and won 5½ to ½. This means that Innsworth has won this year's Primary Schools' Chess League. Well done to our ten chess players who made up this year's chess team. We wish Peter Anwyll well, in his quest today, to become the Gloucestershire County Chess Champion.

Please be aware that MSN messaging has the potential to cause great distress to some children. Teachers, during their discussions on courses, have been made aware that unresolved issues between children have been exacerbated by this form of communication and bullying has actually taken place. We felt we needed to make you aware of this. Apparently text messages on mobiles can also be used in this way.

You should be receiving your child's curriculum for this term by early next week. If this does not happen, please contact the office.

How's this for a post SATs celebration - all Year 6 pupils will be going to France for the day on Monday 15th May. Miss Stocken has 'done us proud' in organising this day out, with pupils from Coney Hill and Upton St Leonards. Because of our partnership with the High School for Girls, the cost of the visit is being subsidised by them together with a substantial donation from 'The Friends of Innsworth'. I've already booked my seat on the coach!

The Community Hall is well on its way towards completion - hopefully by the time we return to school after the end of the Term 5 break, we will be able to appreciate the design of the building. The builders are aware of the congestion that their parked vehicles cause but they do not have very many options to explore. I won't be sorry to see the end of the construction work and the grey steel fences that the offices look out onto. Hopefully, a newly-laid driveway will make us think it's been well worth while.

Our growing beds are almost complete, the seeds have been purchased and our gardening tools are at the ready. What we now need are the VOLUNTEERS to take groups of children outside and plant the seeds into either the growing beds or into seed pots ready for the mini greenhouse. Please can you spare an hour or two to help? If you think you can help us, please call in at the school office or give us a ring. You do not need to be expert gardeners! Enthusiasm is all that is required.

I am pleased to report that all year groups have exciting visits to look forward to before the end of Term 6.

These little creatures have come back with a vengeance! None of us can afford to be complacent so the Sunday head check must be maintained. Remember, next week it could be your child!

Can I ask parents not to park in the school car park before school in order to 'drop off' children, as space is at a premium. Many thanks.
