Apologies - Last week's newsletter was not the final one for the Spring Term!
Several items have arisen since last week so we felt it was important to send out this extra newsletter. Back to topTesco Vouchers
An omission from last week's newsletter was a mention about Tesco's computer vouchers. We are collecting these vouchers so if you shop at Tesco's , we would be delighted to have them. Back to topChess
A huge omission from last week's newsletter was the results of the Chess Congress. We are proud to announce, that once again, Jessica Jones [Year 6] is the Gloucester Girls' Chess Champion. This is for the third time running - Well done Jessica. The boys, not to be outdone, also competed well. Matthew Rust [Year 5] finished in first place with three other players. This is a marvellous achievement Matthew and one that is well deserved.Since the Congress, Jessica, Matthew and Adam Melvin [Year 5] have been part of the Gloucester chess team to play Year 7 pupils from Sir Thomas Rich's. The Gloucester team won 11-1. The last match to complete the chess season was against Cheltenham, which sadly Gloucester lost 7-3. Back to top
Individual Education Plans
Each term we set aside money to release teachers so that they can meet with Mrs Davitt, our Special Needs Co-ordinator and parents. This was an innovative idea, as well as quite a commitment of money, as we felt it is important that we are all working together. However, all has not gone according to plan. Some parents may not have realised how important these meetings were and sent along apologies. If your child has an IEP, please take the opportunities we offer, to set targets with the teachers. By being proactive now, maximum progress is possible. Back to topSecurity in School
The governors have recently reviewed our security measures in school as children's safety is of paramount importance. It was generally felt that, despite having security on all doors, too many people were in school during various times of the day. Therefore, the governors have come up with the following requests to parents:· Please do not come into school before the start of morning lessons. This obviously does not apply to the reception area if you wish to see Mrs Hamblett.
· If you wish to see teachers, please would you 'catch them at the gate' to either have an informal chat or to make an appointment, that is convenient to all.
· Wait in the playground at 3.15 p.m. or 4.15 p.m. (after extra curricular clubs) so that the corridor is free for children coming out.
· Please do not come into school past 4.00 p.m., without an appointment, in case of an emergency fire evacuation. Obviously, this does not apply, if parents have arranged an appointment with the teacher or headteacher.
· Would all parents reiterate to their children that if anyone does gain knowledge of the door code, it is important that they do not use it or pass this knowledge on to other children. We have had children take off the door security and use the code to open a door, leaving it open in the process.
After School Club
· Parents collecting from the 'After School Club' will be able to ring a bell that has just been fitted outside the side door, nearest door to Mr Ward's classroom. If the children are not in the end classroom [Miss Stocken's former room], they will be in the hall. To collect from here, please go around to the hall doors.
I do hope that we have not offended anyone with these requests. Our ultimate aim is to guarantee your child's safety to the best of our ability. Incidents happen when we all become lax about safety issues. Back to top
Chairs
We have surplus chairs that we would like to get rid of. We have approximately 20 red upholstered chairs at £5 each (they need recovering) and approximately 50 brown polypropylene chairs at £1 each. If you are interested or know someone who is, please contact the school office before the end of term.See you all at the Music Evening tomorrow. Back to top
