Welcome to Innsworth Junior School web site.

Newsletter 2nd April 2007

Easter Holidays
The February half term only seems like yesterday! I wonder how many of our children do not agree with me! However, the Spring holiday, as it is now called, is here and Easter this year happens to coincide with it. Next year it does not - but we'll leave that for another newsletter!
The children's last day for this term is Wednesday 4th April as Thursday is an In-service day. Children should return to school on Thursday 19th April; there is no In-service Day prior to the children starting. Back to top
Goodbye to Reverend Ann Morris
We said a fond goodbye to Reverend Ann this morning in a 'special assembly'. We wish her well in her new parish in Barnwood. Back to top
Sponsored Science Quiz
The children responded so well to this sponsored event and raised £976.04 which is a wonderful achievement. We have to applaud you, the parents, for being so supportive - without your backing this event would not be the successful fundraiser that it has become. So from all of us at school, "Thank you very much. We do appreciate your help". The Ecology area has already been earmarked for this money. I hope that we will be able to get moving on this project fairly soon. Certificates are being issued to children who:
* Achieved full marks
* Were highly commended because they did exceptionally well
Well done to everyone! Back to top
Daffodils around Innsworth
The children have been reminded about looking after the daffodils, which enhance the Innsworth environment. Look but don't touch! Back to top
Early Morning Booster Sessions
I need to say a big "Thank you" to our Year 6 parents and the children themselves. The children have been arriving early at school, ready to improve their Mathematical skills and understanding. They have shown great commitment and hopefully, they are feeling that it has been worthwhile. These sessions will start again on Tuesday 24th April for Group 1 and Thursday 26th for Group 2. Music Evening Wednesday 28th March
Miss Schofield provided us with another wonderful Music evening. The children's musical skills and talent were on show and were a testament to the hard work which has gone on throughout the year - by both pupils and staff. As one parent stated on the night,
"Playing a demanding piece and therefore pushing individual children's skills will result in a few errors."
This is so true. So we say, "Well done to all our pupils who stood up on the school stage and made everyone in the audience so very proud".
Nobody took the easy option.
The choir, with their varied repertoire, were guaranteed a huge round of applause. The quality of the singing just improves every year. A big "Thank you" to our parents for coming along on Wednesday evening, supporting the children so well and contributing a sum of £94.40 to the coffers of the Music Department.
Thank you Miss Schofield for being so dedicated. Back to top
'Friends' Beetle Drive Friday 2nd March
Another successful Beetle Drive took place last month. Thanks to all the parents and children who attended. Back to top
'Friends' Easter Disco - Friday 30th March
This term's disco which took place last Friday evening was another success. Thank you to those parents, who helped at the beginning, supervised during the evening or turned up to clear away the evening's debris. Pitching in together makes it easier on everyone. We raised a total of £180. Back to top
Wednesday 4th April
Please remember that it is 'Free Dress Day' on our last day so no uniforms please. All donations will be going to 'Clic', the charity we support. Back to top
Red Nose Day - Children In Need
The total raised by the group of Year 5 children was £167.55 so thank you once again for helping the children in their efforts to support charitable events. They did really well to organise this tabletop sale. Back to top
Tesco and Sainsbury's Vouchers
We are still collecting Tesco and Sainsbury computer vouchers. All vouchers can be sent into the school office via the children. Back to top

Chess Congress
Since my last newsletter many of our chess players took part in the Chess Congress and did the school proud. James D. was proclaimed 'Gloucester Primary Schools Boys' Champion' and Georgina R. the Girls' Champion. We narrowly missed out on the team challenge by Amberley Primary School, who came from nowhere! They had too much depth in their team for us.
However, we did win the Chess League for the second year running. Well done to the group of ten players who made up the extended Chess team. I am now on the look out for potential Chess winners for the 07/08 league! Back to top
Consultation Evenings
Thank you to all our parents who came along to this term's two Consultation Evenings. Attendance: Year 3 - 82%, Year 4 - 96%, Year 5 - 83% and Year 6 - 89%. Until this percentage reaches 100% we will continue to strive for better attendance but well done to Year 4 parents for 96%. Your child's progress is dependent on school and parents working together to support the individual. For those parents who were unable to attend Consultation Evenings, please contact the teacher as soon as possible for an update on your child's progress. This could be via the telephone. Many thanks. Future Dates for Your Diary
Please find the diary for the Summer terms 5 and 6 in the 'Calendar' section of this website and in the 'Documents' section. Back to top
Parents waiting at 3.15 p.m.
The Governors have asked that all parents who come to school to collect children at 3.15 p.m. wait at the far side of the playground and not at the school door where the children come out. This is purely a safety measure. Thank you. Back to top
Tesco Cartridge Recycling Scheme
Your child will be bringing home an envelope to recycle your used inkjet cartridges. For every recyclable inkjet cartridge received, our school can earn 10 vouchers! Simply post the envelope direct to The Recycling Factory. Many thanks. Back to top
Bag to School
Mrs Corley has organised another 'Bag to School' clothing collection. Sacks are being delivered to school during week commencing 16th April; they will be collected on 2nd May.
The more bags that are filled, the more money the Friends make. Over to you! Back to top
Football Result
Two wins and two losses was not enough for the successful Innsworth Junior School football team as they went out of the South West finals. The team were fantastic and these losses were the only ones from the whole season! A huge thank you must go to the most supportive parents and an even bigger thank you to the most committed and enthusiastic bunch of boys! You are all a real credit to Innsworth Junior School. Mrs Jenkins endorses this with a huge thank you to Mr Barrow as well! Back to top
Netball
We are now approaching the end of the Netball season and need to say "Thank You" to Mrs Peoples, Mrs Rogers and Vicky Powell for their sterling work out on the playground throughout the last two terms. The netball players have developed their netballing skills because of the commitment of our three dedicated helpers.

Have a very enjoyable Easter Holiday. Back to top
