Newsletter - 21st July 2005

A Star in our midst!
For those of our parents, who are Citizen readers, you will already be aware that Miss Stocken came runner-up in their 'Teacher of the Year' competition. I am delighted that Miss Stocken's dedication to the children at our school has been recognised from 'beyond our immediate environment'. Miss Stocken fully deserves this award. Well done, Miss Stocken.
A special thank you must go to all the children, who wrote in with their recommendations, not just for Miss Stocken, but for other members of staff as well. The school will also benefit from this award - we get £250! Miss Stocken will be deciding on how best to spend this within school - something that the children will be able to enjoy. Back to top
Questionnaires
Thank you for keeping the questionnaires coming in. There are many comments, which will give us 'food for thought'. These will be invaluable in helping us to 'get it right' in the coming year. As I put on my last newsletter, the homework issue will be investigated. One other highlighted point was a little surprising as we have always considered ourselves to be very proactive about seeking parents' views as we have an 'Open Door' Policy. Again, we will review our practice and see if we can improve it. By the time of the first newsletter in the new academic year, I should have some percentages to give to you about the findings from the returned questionnaires. Thank you to everyone who has taken the time to complete these questionnaires. Back to top
Achievements
We did try to collate a list of our children's achievements outside of school. However, we came unstuck as many of the teachers and children were not very specific about some of the awards. Rather than upset any child because they have been left off the list we have abandoned it for the present moment. From September we will have a book kept in the office, whereby any child achieving outside of school can be recorded in readiness for next July.
However, I must mention the latest achievement of Mitchell Field, who deserves due credit and great recognition because:

Having come third (there were two joint winners) by 0.05 of a point in his last competition, Mitchell has now been given a place in the National Gymnastics Squad to train for the 2012 Olympics. This significant achievement deserves mention here.

How proud we will be if we see Mitchell competing in London in seven years time! No pressure Mitchell!! Back to top
Leavers' Assembly
Once again, the Year 6 treated us to an assembly full of their memories. It was lovely to hear that they were praising so many people and realising that their parents play a major role in their successes. Back to top
Tea Dance
We have had many thank you letters and cards from our senior citizens who attended our Tea Dance/V.E. Day celebrations. The senior citizens are full of praise for our Year 6 and deservedly so. They made us very proud last Tuesday, with their dancing and social skills. We are now considering repeating the experience for next year's Year 6. Back to top
And Finally,
Just a final reminder that all children should have received (except the outgoing Year 6) an exercise book for completing their Summer Writing Journal.
It should not be a laborious task to do. The amount of detail is entirely up to the individual child.

Happy Holidays! Back to top
