February 11th - End of term 3!
We are just coming to the end of a very short Term 3 but after our recent spate of illnesses - adults and children alike, it can't come soon enough. Hopefully, next week's break will allow everyone time to completely recover and see us back to full strength on Monday 21st February. Back to top
Teachers v Parents Netball [Yr 5 / 6]
I would like to congratulate our parents on their victory at the netball match last Friday. Whilst the official result was 9 / 0 to the parents, the unofficial score was one broken finger and two pulled/torn leg muscles to the staff, nil injuries to the parents. Obviously the school staff had underestimated their opponents! I know which side I would prefer to be on next year! Back to top
Lateness
I must say that since my letter regarding our clampdown on lateness, that the number of children being late for school has vastly improved. Many thanks. Back to top
Headlice
One of our parents is feeling that she is losing her battle in trying to combat the problem of eradicating headlice from her child's head. Within a few days of getting rid of these unwanted creatures, she is back to where she started. Why? Some of our parents are not being proactive enough about following the weekly Sunday night routine of checking for headlice. This is a school issue, not an individual battle. Here at school we do a regular staff check as we recognise the importance of being vigilant. Do you? Back to top
Sponsored 'Heroes and Leaders' Quiz
I spent some time on Wednesday afternoon with Class 4 and was amazed by one member of the class who was learning all 110 facts. Apart from the last three on the sheet, his recall was accurate and immediate. I was really impressed.
I do hope there are others in the school who are going to challenge for 'the top honours' in this quiz. The day of reckoning is during the second week of the new term. Back to top
Daffodils around Innsworth
Mr MacIntyre, a member of the local community, has asked us, to ask you, to be mindful of the daffodils that are currently making Innsworth look so attractive. I do believe that this comment is aimed at the children, who do not always recognise the environment around them. This may be the case but children do need to be respectful of their local environment and mindful of the effort that others put in to make the local environment, an attractive place to be in. Please could you discuss these sentiments with your child. Thank you for your help. Back to top
Car parking in the community
Please could I ask you to be aware of the local residents when parking your car near the school gate. Space is at a premium so it is advisble to park a little further away rather than upset people who live very close to us. Apparently, one of our parents recently blocked the entrance to the flats opposite the school and this did cause a great deal of concern. Back to top
Notice for Year 3 Parents - English lessons
From 21st February the Year 3 children will be grouped for English by ability. This is in line with our organisation across the rest of the school. Last September we kept the Year 3 in their classes for English as we wanted to challenge whether our organisation was the best way of delivering quality lessons. We can only question our methods if we are able to make comparisons. The Year 3 will have had half a year in a mixed ability setting which can then we compared with the half year in an ability setting. Our school development is to continually challenge current practice so that we always strive to improve.
I can say that the current Year 3 did settle into our Junior School much easier than in previous years. Was this to do with the security of staying in classes for some of the day?
I would welcome your comments. Back to top
'Friends' Bingo Night: Friday 25th February
Please come along and support this evening. It has always been a great success and indeed, it has often overrun because nobody has wanted to go home! The children love Bingo evenings!!
Unfortunately, we are unable to have a bar on the evening, as stated on the letter. However, you are very welcome to bring along your own alcoholic beverages. Back to top
'Friends' Easter Disco:
The Easter Disco is on Friday 18th March from 7.00 - 9.00 p.m. and all Innsworth Junior School children are invited. A letter regarding the disco will be sent out next term. Back to top
Spoons!
Our midday supervisors tell us that they are often inundated with requests for spoons! Parents apparently forget to put them in their child's lunch box. As we only carry a few of these utensils, please could you help improve this situation by supplying a spoon whenever one is needed. Many thanks. Back to top
Year 6 Early Morning Boosters
Well done to our Year 6 pupils who have arrived at school ready for an 8.20 a.m. start. I have been very impressed with their commitment to their learning. Well done Year 6. Back to top
